Worth a Drive
Southeast of Ottawa, there’s plenty to see and do in SDG Counties (the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry). Take a drive in this direction and you’ll come across scenic walking trails, museums, golf courses, farm-fresh produce and great shopping and dining. Check whereontariobegan.ca for details. For instance, the annual Field and Feast Festival is happening September 14 and 15 at Springfield Farm in Apple Hill. Saturday’s highlights will include locally sourced cuisine by chef Margaret McCormick and her team, along with beverages and live music featuring The Bookendz, The River Mohawk Band and Jerry Leger & The Situation. At Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg, you can step back in time at the 1860s Fall Fair Weekend & Quilt Show September 14 and 15. Highlights include musical and magic shows, games, exhibits, a horse and cattle show, a quilting bee and show and seasonal treats. uppercanadavillage.com
Garlic lovers are in for some treats at the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival & Garlic Gala in Cornwall September 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The action is happening at Lamoureax Park and the Cornwall Civic Complex. You’ll discover garlic galore, along with music, art, artisans, local food and farmers offering farm products. While you’re at Lamoureax Park, take a stroll on the Citizen of the Year Walkway, check out the Cornwall Community Museum and wander along the beautiful recreational path that hugs the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River.
